RWANDA AGROFORESTRY AND FOREST RESTORATION REPORT (RAFOR) MISSION REPORT

Promoting and implementing sustainable agroforestry practices in over 15,000 ha of agricultural plots, located in the Northern Province of Rwanda (Districts of Gicumbi and Burera), and,

The Project’s operations will be implemented by Green Solutions and Supply Ltd, a company established in Rwanda with the main mission of ‘’Strengthening the climate resilience of the rural communities through Sustainable Forest Management and landscape restoration’’.

The agroforestry and reforestation activities were identified by Removall as eligible to voluntary carbon market mechanisms and will generate carbon credits under their cumulated area of 17,000 ha.

Record Keeping

The record-keeping of the nursery managers and community facilitators are very effiecient where the farmers were registered before and once they come to pick the trees they sign for the number of trees picked for each tree species.

Field Visit

The team proceeded to Rwanda Forest Authority to meet with the Director General and the team to present the project. The DG, Division Managers for Forest Reserch and forest management were present in the meeting. The Chief Cooperation and operations from GSS introduced the team to RFA and provided a brief overview on the project scope. Removall prsesident expressed the gartitude to RFA team for the appointement and further underlined the project expected outputs and the support needed from RFA.

Recruitment & Registration

The recruitement and registration the farmers was done by the GSS staff (Community facilitators) with Arcos staff working closely with the farmer promoters.

The distribution of the tree seedlings is done by GSS community facilitators together with the farmer promoters, the same approach is done for the monitoring of the planted trees.
